Compare the same problem
Two prices are only comparable when they address the same observed condition. Send each contractor the same photographs, location notes and water timeline. Ask each proposal to identify the wall or joint being treated and the stated cause. If one quote assumes an isolated crack and another assumes a broader drainage problem, record that difference rather than choosing by total alone. Request clarification when the proposal describes a product but does not explain which symptom it addresses.
Make access work visible
An interior repair proposal can include moving stored items, opening a finished wall and restoring the room. An exterior proposal can include excavation access, removal of landscaping and restoration afterward. Ask for those tasks to be listed separately where relevant. Identify what you will prepare yourself and what the contractor will do. A low headline price can omit reinstatement; a more detailed proposal may already include it. Clear boundaries help you understand the complete project without assuming either method is appropriate before assessment.
Discuss limits and evidence
Ask what observation would change the proposed approach and whether the assessment is complete enough to price the work. Request an explanation of limitations in ordinary language. A quote should distinguish the specific treated area from other basement surfaces. Ask how existing finishes or concealed conditions affect the investigation. Keep a record of unanswered questions and obtain written clarification before accepting. This guide is a comparison checklist, not a diagnosis or a recommendation for a particular repair system.
Plan the handover
Ask what photographs, completion notes and product information you will receive. Clarify what warranty is offered, who provides it and which exclusions apply. Confirm whether a return inspection is included and how to report concerns after the work. Keep the original symptom record with the completed repair record so future discussions have a useful timeline. An enquiry through this site may be passed to Artour’s contractor network for a possible referral; it does not assign a professional, book work or agree a price.
